AURORA – Waubonsie Valley boys tennis finished second at the IHSA Sectionals at Metea Valley High School last weekend. The Warriors fell three team points shy of finishing first.
In singles competition, senior Aiden Lam finished second. Lam swept East Aurora’s Alan Mendoza, 6-0, 6-0, and Plainfield North’s Caleb Mellencamp, 6-0, 6-1. Lam lost to Neuqua Valley’s Johnny Mou, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the championship match. Freshman Hector Diaz finished fourth, defeating Plainfield Central’s Jeff Giertych, 6-2, 6-1, and Metea Valley’s Ameya Tyagi, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles competition, senior Zexin Jiang and freshman Revanth Kothapalli finished fourth, winning their first match 6-2, 6-2, and their second match 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.
