Waubonsie Wins in “Balk-Off” Fashion

AURORA – It is sometimes said that the great thing about baseball is that you will see something that you have never seen before in almost every game. Monday was one of those games as the Warriors beat Naperville North on a walk-off balk for a 7-6 win at WV Baseball Field.

Waubonsie was down 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mason Ringenbach led off with a walk, Josh Hung singled, Ben Ford grounded out to score Ringenbach, and Hung advanced to third. With an 0-1 count, North pitcher Jackson Prentice dropped the ball in his windup, drawing the balk call and scoring Hung to end the game.

The balk completed a six-run rally, as the Warriors were down 6-1 in the fourth inning. Waubonsie scored on Seth Nielson, Ryan Gustaitis and Hiroshy Wong RBI singles. Ryan Morton closed out the game, pitching five strong innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out four.

Wong was 1-for-4 with two RBI, Hung was 1-for-1 with two runs, Ford was 1-for-4 with one RBI, Owen Roberts was 1-for-3 with one run, Seth Nielson was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run, and Gustaitis was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

The Warriors travel to Naperville North on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
