Warrior Softball Edges Plainfield Central

PLAINFIELD – The Warriors totaled 13 hits and Samantha Wiertelak pitched a complete game to help Waubonsie Valley softball to a 6-5 win over Plainfield Central on Saturday.

The Warriors had the lead until the fourth inning when Central added one run to tie then scored again in the fifth inning to take the lead, 4-3. In the top of the sixth inning, the Warriors came back with three runs to take the lead for good. Avery Kahl singled to start the inning, Gia Cobert doubled, Anna Riggs doubled then scored on an error.

Wiertelak pitched seven innings and struck out four, while going 3-for-4 at the plate with 2RBI. Cobert also had three hits, including two doubles, two runs and 1 RBI, and Riggs went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Lily Elsea and Kahl also added a hit apiece for the Warriors.

Waubonsie hosts Neuqua Valley on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
